Pedestrian Bridge Project Update

Construction on the new pedestrian bridge at The Plex continues to move forward.

July 15, 2026 - Interstate 80/Middle Road Interchange Closing Tuesday-Friday for Three Weeks Starting Tuesday, July 21

Beginning Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT), in conjunction with the City of Bettendorf, is closing the Interstate 80/Middle Road Interchange (Exit 301) so crews can install the arches of the Gateway Bridge over Middle Road just south of I-80 and continue work on the new Interstate 80 bridges.

According to IDOT’s website, Middle Road will be closed at I-80 weekly on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, July 21, from 6 a.m. until Friday, July 24, at 6 a.m.

  • Tuesday, July 28, from 6 a.m. until Friday, July 31, at 6 a.m.

  • Tuesday, August 4, from 6 a.m. to Friday, August 7, at 6 a.m.

Weather permitting, the I-80/Middle Road Interchange will reopen on Fridays at 6 a.m. through the following Monday every week during this part of the project.

During the closure, follow the marked detour route found here or travel east/west on I-80 and take Exit 298 for I-74 toward Bettendorf/Davenport. Continue to Exit 3 for Middle Road. Turn left onto Middle Road and continue traveling until you’re near the TBK Bank Sports Complex, Iron Tee Golf, and The Plex area.

I-80 & Middle Road Construction Update

Construction on the I-80 interchange improvements continues to make progress, with the eastbound on-ramp now open and available to traffic.

Visitors to The Plex and surrounding businesses should be aware that Middle Road north of I-80 is currently closed to through traffic and is expected to remain closed into the fall as crews complete a major infrastructure improvement project. Detour routes are in place, and access to The Plex remains available through alternate routes.

While this work may create temporary traffic adjustments, these improvements are an important part of enhancing access, traffic flow, and infrastructure throughout the area.

Middle Road Recreational Trail

Work is moving forward on the Middle Road Recreational Trail extension between Forest Grove Drive and Hopewell Avenue. Construction is expected to begin later this summer and be completed this fall, creating an improved connection for pedestrians and cyclists traveling throughout The Plex area.

As part of the project, temporary traffic impacts will occur along portions of Middle Road during construction. A short-term road closure is planned to allow for infrastructure improvements, with traffic being detoured around the work zone. Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions and maintain access to nearby businesses, attractions, and facilities.
